Regular Fire Alarm testing is a legal requirement, however, most of our clients initially don't understand how often their fire detection systems need to be tested and checked for functionality and reliability.
British Standards Recommendations
The British Standard (BS5839) that associated with fire alarm systems gives some recommendations as to when and how often a fire alarm system should be tested.
Functional Testing
It is also imperative for a regular functional testing to be carried out to ensure that there has not been any failure of the entire system, or significant part of the system. British Standards BS5839 recommends that the user / responsible person for the fire system tests their fire alarm system on a weekly basis.
